Nick's Pizza in Oakland

There's a new pizza place in town! I'm so proud of my dear friend Nick Yapor-Cox, who just opened his own pizza shack (parlor? joint?) in North Oakland, with his fiancee Courtney Griffin. Nick's Pizza is open Tuesday - Saturday, 11am-9pm, serving up five pizzas a day, fresh salads and perfect desserts (Nick has an extensive background as a pastry chef).The ingredients are fresh, the dough is sour, and the chef is locally grown - Nick grew up just blocks from his restaurant.


Walking up to the quaint storefront on opening night, I was charmed by the checkered table cloths, chalkboard sign, and sidewalk table. But it's really about the food!



On the pizza menu was Classic Cheese, Classic Pepperoni, Spring Fling (asparagus, cherry tomatoes, caramelized onions, goat cheese and olive oil), Vegan Spring Fling, Roasted Mushroom, and "Nick's Pick," which was my choice - prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, fresh and aged mozzarellas, arugula and meyer lemon vinaigrette. Amazing! And you can get it delivered!



The "Salad Special" of strawberries, toasted hazelnuts, endive, mixed greens, goat cheese and meyer lemon vinaigrette provided just the right amount of delicious roughage to move that pizza through, if ya know what I mean.



I got so excited when dessert came I forgot to take a picture! Here's the aftermath of Chocolate Mousse (with toasted almonds and creme chantilly) and Strawberry Shortcake (with lemon verbena and whipped cream).
